As part of Stage 3 of the Liquid Waste Management Plan, Council voted in 2015 to have a consolidated waste water treatment plant located adjacent to the existing plant in Townsite. The existing Westview plant will be decommissioned and replaced with a new underground pump station, and Wildwood lagoon will be decommissioned and replaced with a new underground pump station, sized to include Tla’amin’s wastewater. In addition, new pipes and pump stations will be built underground in order to carry wastewater from the different regions of our City to the new plant.

In March 2017, the City of Powell River were awarded grant funding for 83% of the project costs, including 50% from the federal government and 33% from the provincial government, for up to $3.3 million for the design phase of the WWTP.

 

In August 2017, the City of Powell River hired Associated Engineering to do the pre-design and detailed design of the new plant. This design work will be completed by March 31, 2018 in order to meet the April 2018 application deadlines for the provincial and federal funding needed to build the plant.

 

The City of Powell River is aiming to begin building the new plant in the Fall of 2018 and to begin operating the new plant in 2020.
