Powell River Community Forest Ltd. Grant Funding
Council voted to approve the following grants totalling $799,522 from the Powell River Community Forest Reserve Fund: Paddling for Life, $10,000; Powell River Aces Volleyball Club, $50,000; Powell River United Way (Success by Six), $137,500; Powell River Community First Aid Team Society, $40,500; City of Powell River, $45,000; Powell River Villa Soccer Club $223,597; Powell River Sports Hall of Fame Society, $39,175; Powell River Rotary Clubs, $5,500; Powell River Chamber of Commerce, $25,000; Powell River 100+ Women Who Care, $35,000; Powell River Employment Program, $85,000; Townsite Ratepayers Association, $103,250. The Powell River Community Forest was established in 2006 with the objective that the profits it generates are returned to the community in the form of grants for capital projects.
 
Proclamation
Mayor Dave Formosa proclaimed November 16, 2018 as Louis Riel Day in Powell River and authorized a flag raising ceremony on that date at Powell River City Hall. Louis Riel Day, November 16, is a commemorative day that is celebrated by the Métis Nation in British Columbia and across Canada.
 
Development Variance Permit 216 and Development Permit 235
Council voted that Development Variance Permit 216 to vary city of Powell River Zoning Bylaw 2100, 2006, by relaxing the side setback requirement from 3.0 to 18 metres and front setback requirement from 7.5 to 7.4 metres to facilitate the development of a multi-bay warehouse-style industrial building on a vacant property located on Cook Avenue near Duncan Street, legally described as Lot A Block 4 District Lot 5731 NWD Plan EPP71837 (PID 030-140-331) be issued, and that Development Permit 235 to facilitate the development of a multi-bay warehouse-style industrial building on a vacant property located on Cook Avenue near Duncan Street be issued subject to receipt of the associated security deposit for the required landscaping to the satisfaction of the Director of Planning Services.
 
Age-Friendly Communities Grant Program
Council voted to approve the submission of a grant application for $15,000 under the Union of BC Municipalities Age-friendly BC Communities Grant Program and provide support for the proposed activities and overall grant management. The Age-Friendly Communities Grant Program is intended to assist local governments in BC to best support aging populations. This will be the third year of application by the City for the program and the hope is that with additional funding, the third phase of the Age-Friendly Powell River Plan can be implemented.
 
2018 General Local Election Results
Council voted to receive the 2018 General Local Election Results report dated November 15, 2018, for information.
 
City of Powell River Fee Bylaw
Council voted that City of Powell River Fee Bylaw 2092, 2005, Amendment Bylaw 2533, 2018, be adopted. The bylaw adds a Schedule outlining the fees for cannabis licences.
 
City of Powell River Business Licence Bylaw
Council voted that City of Powell River Business Licence Bylaw 2226, 2010, Amendment Bylaw 2535, 2018, be adopted. The bylaw outlines amendments to City of Powell River business licensing to accommodate cannabis retail stores.
