Highlights from May 10, 2018 City of Powell River Special Council Meeting

Consent Resolutions – Municipal Corporation Powell River Power Development Corporation
Council voted that the Consent Resolution for the Powell River Power Development Corporation dated May 3, 2018, to accept the 2017 Financial Statements, establish the annual reference date as May 3, 2018, and appoint Tor Birtig, Scott Randolph and Rod Wiebe as the Directors, be approved.
 
City of Powell River Audit Results and Communications
Council voted that the City of Powell River 2017 Audit Results and Communications be accepted. Auditor Bill Cox, from BDO Canada LLP, Chartered Professional Accountants, presented an audit of the consolidated financial statements of the City of Powell River for the year ended December 31, 2017. Mr. Cox told Council that it was a clean audit.
 
City of Powell River 2017 Consolidated Audited Financial Statements
Council voted that the City of Powell River 2017 Statement of Financial Information (SOFI) be approved. The SOFI report contains information on employee remuneration and expenses, plus a schedule of suppliers of goods and services to the City.
 
City of Powell River Five-Year Financial Plan Bylaw
Council voted that the City of Powell River Five-Year Financial Plan Bylaw 2501, 2018, be adopted. The bylaw sets out revenues and expenses for the budget years 2018 to 2022.
 
City of Powell River Annual Property Tax Bylaw
Council voted that the City of Powell River Annual Property Tax Rates Bylaw 2508, 2018 be adopted. The Property Tax Rates Bylaw sets out tax rates for 2018 based on dollars of property tax per $1,000 of taxable assessed value for nine different property classes, plus flat tax rates for property with and without improvements. The Bylaw outlines assessments for the City of Powell River General Municipal Tax, plus the Powell River Regional District and Powell River Regional Hospital District contributions.
 
City of Powell River Zoning Amendment Bylaw
Council voted that City of Powell River Zoning Amendment Bylaw 2100, 2006 Amendment Bylaw 2505, 2018, receive first and second reading, that the Amendment Bylaw proceed to Public Hearing and that the applicant be requested to make a voluntary community amenity contribution to the affordable housing reserve fund. The Amendment Bylaw pertains to a property at 7345 Warner Street rezoning from A1 Small Lot Rural Residential to R2 Single and Two-Family Residential.
