Media Release - Canada Day will recognize Nation's 150th Anniversary

 
Powell River’s Canada Day celebration on July 1, with its Canada 150 theme, will provide a variety of fun and ceremony for the whole community.
 
“It’s a really big family event,” said Neil Pukesh, City of Powell River Manager of Recreation. “We want families to come out and celebrate Canada Day 150 on July 1.”
 
This year, Canada Day will be held on a Saturday, and will be celebrated at Willingdon Beach.

The City of Powell River Community Forest has provided a record setting dividend from timber sales that will help finance community projects throughout the entire Powell River region.
 
At the Monday, May 29 meeting of Powell River City Council, President of Powell River Community Forest (PRCF) Ltd., Greg Hemphill, said the community forest representatives in attendance were pleased to present the 2016 dividend to the City of Powell River in the amount of $1,975,639.

Media Release - Sea Lion Threat Closes Cleaning Station

Due to the presence of sea lions in the area, the fish cleaning stations at the North Boat Harbour will be closed until further notice.
All fish catch is to be cleaned at people’s residences or at sea to lessen the danger of contact with these large sea mammals.
According to a notice from Fisheries and Oceans Canada, sea lions and seals are dangerous and should not be disturbed. They bite and can carry harmful diseases. Fisheries and Oceans Canada has stated that for people’s safety, they should not touch or feed these animals.
