Council Seeks Nominations for Canada 150 Community Leaders

Names of community-minded individuals are being sought to help coordinate Powell River’s activities that recognize and commemorate Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017.
At Powell River City Council’s Committee of the Whole meeting, Tuesday, September 13, councillors reviewed a request from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) to appoint a Canada 150 Community Leader or leaders.

Active Transportation continues to be a leading health initiative in many communities across BC and here in Powell River we're fortunate to have a dedicated group of people leading the way. The Powell River Youth Active Transportation Project  - which is supported by SD47, The City of Powell River, Powell River Cycling Association, Vancouver Coastal Health, and the Powell River Division of Family Practice, just completed the bike rack project and have installed these great works of art throughout the community.

Water Bylaw Governs Resource Usage

While plentiful water supplies in the Powell River region can lead to complacency about consumption, hot weather can bring increasing water use restriction.
Similar to many municipalities, the City of Powell River now has a four-stage bylaw in place that governs water consumption, based on factors such as weather conditions and reservoir accumulations.
