City provides permanent home for Powell River Search and Rescue

Powell River Search and Rescue now has a permanent home thanks to support from Powell River City Council.  At the regular Council meeting held June 06, 2013, Council unanimously agreed to transfer the City owned property at 6791 Drake Street to Search and Rescue at a cost of $1.00.

Councillor Brewer attends Democracy Forum

At the April 04 regular Council meeting, Councillor Russell Brewer reported on his attendance at the Centre of Civic Governance forum entitled “Deepening Democracy”.  The theme of the forum was primarily about nurturing a healthy and vibrant democracy and leaders who exercise their democratic jurisdiction.  Councillor Brewer notes that there were a number of concurrent sessions on various topics at the forum and he attended the sessions that he felt had the most benefit to our community.  For a copy of Councillor Brewer’s report on the forum,

Council approves shareholder loan to Powell River Power Development Corporation

At a special Council meeting held March 28, 2013 Powell River City Council approved entering into a partnership agreement with Powell River Power Development Corporation to study, investigate and possible build a run of the river hydroelectric generating facility on Freda Creek.  Council also approved a shareholder loan in the amount of $140,000 to provide funds to invest in the Power Development Corporation, of which the City is the sole shareholder.
