The Council of the City of Powell River hereby gives notice that it will meet and hold a Public Hearing, May 18, 2017, at 6:30 pm, in Council Chambers of City Hall, 6910 Duncan Street, Powell River, B.C. to consider proposed Bylaw 2470, 2017 and Bylaw 2471, 2017.

Media Release - Contractors to Tear Down Dilapidated Residential Buildings

Buildings on the residential lot at 4468 Joyce Avenue that were subject to a remediation action requirement order by Powell River City Council will be demolished this week.
Remediation of the buildings was expected to be completed on Wednesday, May 10. The vermiculite insulation, which has been known to contain asbestos, has been safely removed and the remaining hazardous materials will be offsite and properly disposed of by end of day       May 10.

Media Release - Recreation Complex Inspires Community to Keep Moving with Free Run/Walk

To commemorate the provincial Move for Health Day Initiative, the Powell River Recreation Complex will celebrate with a free Move for Health Day five-kilometre fun run/walk.
The fun run/walk, is a partnership between the British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association and the City of Powell River that will be held on Saturday, May 13, starting alongside the Bike Park and following through the picturesque trail routes that populate the forested lands in and around Millennium Park.

Media Release - Woman Survives House Fire

Immediate action by Powell River’s first responders resulted in a woman being pulled and saved from an intensely burning residence.
At approximately 6:30 am on Tuesday, May 2, there was a structure fire called in by a neighbouring resident at the Blue Mountain Mobile Home Park on Duncan Street. When fire crews arrived a double-wide home was burning extensively.
“It was a wood-framed structure with a single occupant,” said Rocky Swanson, Deputy Fire Chief. “Upon arrival, our crews saw thick smoke and flame.
