Earlier this week, two heron nests with feeding chicks were discovered on site. Harvesting equipment has been removed, the site is closed and the project is currently on hold. At the June 17 Committee of the Whole meeting, Chief Administrative Officer Stan Westby advised Council that staff are gathering information from various specialists and related agencies to address the issue. It is anticipated that a report with recommendations will be presented to Council early next week. "Council is aware of the public's concerns regarding the herons", says Mayor Stewart Alsgard. "Please be assured that Council’s decisions regarding this issue will be in keeping with the legislated regulations and the community’s best interests."
